Art Learning is Cumulative

Updated: May 12, 2023

Here are three paintings of groups. The one on the left was painted in 2020. The one in the middle in March 2023, and the one at the end in April 2023. We are so lucky as artists to have technology to help us learn and to document our journeys.

The gallerist who juried the Art 2 Life show last year said at the opening party that every painting holds the seed to the next. When I line my work up chronologically I can see it. I can also see the track of how all the paintings in between those figure paintings led to this last one.

Sometimes artists are concerned about 'style'. I certainly have been, and still am sometimes. We are varied and complex. Everything you paint is 'you'. It all adds up and it all tells the story. All you have to do is keep going.
