Art for Well Being

Updated: May 12, 2023

This video highlights the value of creativity for well being.

So one morning a week I do art with people who are recovering from brain injuries. It has been a most inspiring journey for me to meet the participants and chat about their journeys. While I make a lot of connections to my 35 years as a secondary school teacher, and bring those skills to the table there is also something about this that is entirely new for me.

The power of art to touch our souls is remarkable. Absorption in creative play anchors and moves us in ways nothing else does.

June is Brain Injury Awareness month.

If you would like to learn more about recovery from brain injury for yourself or to help people around you, have a look at the website for the Ontario Brain Injury Association, https://obia.ca, and especially at their magazine, the OBIA Review, which highlights the stories of people dealing with brain injuries.
