"RECIPES" for creating a Basic Print using Stamping or Lifting

STAMPING PRINT

1. Roll paint out on palette for stamping - fairly thick

2. Dip stamp into paint on palette and stamp onto gelli plate

3. LET DRY

4. Roll a think layer of contrasting colour over the stamped gelli plate

5. Immediately put paper over wet paint on plate, Iron gently with hand.

6. WHEN the paint is set, peel the paper off the plate, lifting all the layers so the paint is clean.

The stamps should appear on top of your printed page in a contrasting colour to the background.

LIFTING PRINT

1. Roll wet paint onto gelli plate.

2. Immediately put paper over wet paint on plate, Iron gently with hand.

3. WHEN the paint is set, peel the paper off the plate, lifting all the layer so the paint is clean.

4. Your paper will be printed with the colours you put on the plate.

5.For the design: Roll wet paint onto gelli plate.

5. Immediately lift the wet paint with a flat sided, absorbent object.

6. Immediately apply your coloured page to the gelli plate.

7. Peel up when paint is set.

These two exercises show you that you can ADD design colour, and create design by TAKING AWAY (Lifting) colour.
